The ring is on your finger. The date is set. And the only venue spectacular enough to hold all the love you feel is the beautiful, breathtaking Canadian Rockies and the sprawling vistas of Banff National Park. Now all you need is to find the perfect photographer that just makes you want to say, “I do!” But how do you find the best wedding photographers Banff has to offer?

Look for a Local

While many articles might suggest beginning your quest for the perfect photographer with your budget in mind, your best bet is actually to start by looking for a local. This will help ensure you get the best bang for your bridal buck. One of the biggest advantages of going with a photographer from the area is their expertise. Local photographers have firsthand knowledge of the best spots to stage stunning shots. They are also keenly aware of crowd flow in popular areas and how natural lighting typically behaves in specific locations and at certain times of day. As a bonus, local photographers usually have the inside scoop on “hidden gems” that may not necessarily be on everyone’s go-to list.

There are also some less obvious, but just as important advantages to choosing local. Many Canadian municipalities require licensing for businesses operating in their jurisdiction. Additionally, specific permits are often required to shoot in certain areas. Photographers traveling to the area for work may not be aware of the need for such permissions. You don’t want an oversight to ruin your big day!

Remember, a wedding planner in Banff can also help with many of your questions concerning your big day.

Stick with Your Style

Beyond looking for a local, it’s important to choose a photographer that suits your own personal style. Whether you’re envisioning ice castle kingdoms or a brazen “trash the dress” shoot, to find that “perfect someone,” spend some time checking out some actual wedding shots. You can find many of these on social media and on photographer’s sites. Look for the shots that speak to you.

Besides your own personal style, be sure to consider the photographer’s style. This not only includes their editing style—whether their shots trend to light or dark or favor vintage retro or true to color—but should also consider their shooting style. Some photographers shoot more naturally. Others prefer posing their subjects in a more formal style. No matter what the preferences, only “marrying” compatible styles will ensure your wedding story gets told the way you want.

Question the Person Behind the Camera

Love at first sight is truly a romantic notion, but don’t rely on it to find your perfect wedding photographer. Go on a “date” or two with prospective photographers. Whomever you choose, you will be spending a good deal of time with them. Make sure they don’t hog the covers or steal the remote. Just kidding! But you DO want someone you can work and get along with easily. Don’t be afraid to ask them questions and be sure to listen to their responses. Reach out to hopefuls in person via phone, or even by video chat.

Would You Like to Try a Sample?

While websites and comp cards can give you a taste of what a photographer has to offer, the savvy couple understands that more than an amuse bouche is needed to determine if a photographer is truly the right fit. Social media and websites obviously only display their best work. To get a more well-rounded concept of what a photographer can do on a typical shoot, ask to see some full galleries. This will give you a better concept of how your own collection will appear should you choose their services. The better candidates will show you even before you have a chance to ask. Be certain to view galleries comparable to your expected event so you’re not comparing apples to oranges—outdoor to outdoor, indoor to indoor, evening to evening, etcetera.

Nail Down the Specifics

Your heart is thrumming. Your pulse is pounding. You think you’ve finally found “the one!” But it’s not over until you sign on the dotted line…and we don’t mean the marriage certificate. While signing a marriage certificate may make legally make you and yours a happy couple, you’ll also want to sign a contract with your chosen photographer. But before you sign by the “X,” carefully review all the details to make sure everything is clear and all parties are in agreement to the specifics. A comprehensive contract will include a cancellation policy, a delivery schedule, and editing and retouching stipulations and limitations.

There are many Banff hair salons that offer a variety of services. Many of these salons are located in the heart of the town, making them convenient for tourists and residents alike. Services offered at these salons can include hair cuts, hair color, highlights, lowlights, perms, extensions, and more.

When it comes to finding the best hair salon in Banff Alberta, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. First, you need to find a salon that has a good reputation. Ask your friends and family for recommendations, and read online reviews to get an idea of what other people think of the salon. Second, you need to find a salon that offers the services you’re looking for. If you’re looking for a simple haircut, any salon will do. However, if you’re looking for a more complex style or color, you’ll want to make sure the salon has stylists who are experienced in those areas. Finally, you need to consider your budget. Hair salons can range in price from very affordable to quite expensive. Once you’ve considered all of these factors, you’ll be able to choose the best hair salon for your needs.

History (brief) of Banff Hair Salons

The hair salons in Banff can be traced back to the early days of Alberta’s history. The first recorded hair salon was established in Calgary in 1885 by John Scott and William McDonald. Scott and McDonald were both immigrants from Scotland who had come to Alberta in search of work. They quickly realized that there was a need for a barbers in the young province, and they set up shop in a small storefront in downtown Calgary. The “salon” quickly became popular with the locals.

Who Started The First Hair Salon in Banff?

It is believed that the first true hair salon in Alberta was opened in Banff in the early 1900s. This is where the story gets a bit murky. Either a Mrs. Poole or Mrs. Stewart started the first hair salon.

Mrs. Poole, who had recently moved to the town from England, quickly developed a reputation for being an excellent hairdresser, and her business soon flourished. In the 1920s, she was joined by her daughter, who also became a skilled hairdresser. Together, they ran the salon for over 40 years, serving the people of Banff with distinction.

The other story goes that Mrs. Stewart had previously worked as a maid in a local hotel, but she decided to open her own business after seeing the need for a hair salon in the town. Mrs. Stewart’s salon quickly became popular, and she soon had a waiting list of clients.

Whomever started the first hair Banff hair salon, they were designed to meet the needs of the growing tourist industry. However, as the town grew, so did the number of salons.

9 Qualities to Look For in Your Banff Wedding Planner

There are many wedding planners Banff has to offer and they come with numerous qualities. The wedding planner is instrumental in determining the quality of your wedding and the overall effect and style you want to achieve.

Before you select your wedding planner in Banff, consider the following qualities:

1. Transparency of the Wedding Planning Process

There are couples that leave everything to the wedding planner and some who want to be involved in the entire process. In both examples, excellent communication is required between the two parties, as well as, easy-to-follow methods. Complete transparency is the rule of thumb.

When interviewing wedding planners make sure you ask about their process and methods. Ask whether they use a computer (hopefully) or are still using paper and pen. Planning software will ease the communication and allow you to follow the entire planning process.

Successful wedding planners in Banff will have a streamlined process.

2. Transparent Prices and Fees

The price of your wedding planner is an important topic of discussion. There are planners who charge for their services hourly or they offer packages with a fixed price. You may be more comfortable if you go for a fixed price because that way you will not face any surprises at the end.

Another detail you need to consider is paying for the wedding vendors. Some couples prefer to pay the vendors themselves, while others are more comfortable when the payment goes through their planners. If you go for the latter, then you will need a wedding planner you will trust to keep your costs low and track each transaction.

3. Excellent Communication

Excellent communication with the wedding planner is essential. If you do not establish it immediately, you will face some serious issues during the process.

Make sure that you choose a planner who listens to you and understands very clearly what you want from them. Your big day is supposed to reflect your personality, and for this to be achieved, you will have personal needs. If your wedding planner listens to you, your big day will be a successful celebration.

4. The Planning Style Suits Your Lifestyle

Do you have a busy schedule and really, who doesn’t? A flexible planner who can work with your schedule is a must. You need someone who will be able to work during the weekends or evenings. Managing your own time with wedding planning can be difficult, but not impossible. A good wedding planner will see to that!

5. Expertise in Achieving Dream Weddings

People usually have an idea of how their wedding will play out.  If you want a traditional and religious wedding, then you will need to choose a wedding planner that is an expert in this field. Similarly, if you desire something unconventional and unique, you will need to find a person who is capable and confident in seeing it through.

Let that dream wedding happen.

6. Patience

Your wedding planner needs to possess a certain amount of patience. If you want a specific wedding style, but you are not sure about details, then you need someone quite patient. They will need to go through the whole process without losing it.

For example, you might like one color but are uncertain of other details. Your wedding planner will have to give you some ideas and examples of their use.

7. Creativity

Creativity is something that a wedding planner has to possess. Planning a wedding is not simple and plans do not go as we expect. Your wedding planner needs to be creative enough to find appropriate solutions in times of crisis.

For instance, imagine that your floral décor has arrived in smaller amounts than you expected. The wedding planner needs to be able to adapt to the situation and resolve these kinds of problems quickly.

A dedicated wedding planner will iron out all issues.

8. Top Organizational Skills

It goes without saying that organizational skills are a must quality in a wedding planner. They are responsible for every decision made along the way, so they need to stay on top of everything, at all times. If you are not good with organizational skills, your wedding planner has to be the exact opposite.

The role of the wedding planner is to take over the details of the wedding and reduce your stress. Let them manage the whole process so you will be able to stay relaxed.

9. Friendly Approach

A good wedding planner understands the situation and can give their clients the right amount of space to vent any frustrations. A good wedding planner will give you expert, friendly advice so you can easily move forward.

7 Questions People Ask Wedding Planners in Banff

Here are the 7 most frequently asked questions that couples ask about Banff weddings.

Do you need a permit to get married in Banff?

If you choose a venue that is outside the Banff National Park, then you do not need any kind of permit. If you plan to host your ceremony inside the park, then each participant needs to possess a valid entry pass. These entry passes can be purchased online, at the Parks Canada visitor center, or at any park gate.

All businesses that will be included in the nuptial ceremony, including wedding photographers, need to possess a business license. The Banff National Park has strict regulations and not complying with them will not serve you well on your special day.

How many participants may attend a ceremony in Banff National Park?

The Banff National Park allows 20 participants maximum! Therefore, if you plan to say your “I do’s” on the park’s property, plan on a small ceremony. In addition, you need to make sure that all of your guests comply with the national park’s regulations at all times.

Remember, Banff National Park has a limit on participants.

How much does a wedding in Banff cost?

Generally, the cost of a wedding in Banff can range from $5000 to $15000. This is the average price of wedding venues across Banff. You have to bear in mind that this is a popular bridal location, so the venues can get quite expensive.

However, there are other factors that affect the cost of the wedding. For instance, the location, size of the wedding, length of both ceremony/reception, and date will play an important part in the price. If you opt for a small cocktail reception, then the costs will definitely be lower than a traditional five-course meal dinner.

How much do the best wedding planners in Banff cost?

First, it is important to note that every wedding is unique and requires special methods for planning and realization. There is no way to determine one fixed price for wedding planners. The price of the wedding planner will vary depending on the things you want to include on the day.

Many wedding planners offer packages, so couples choose the one that suits their ideas and budget. These packages come with different kinds of services, meaning that the more services you require the more the price will increase. On average, wedding planners cost between $1,000 and $2,500, but that number can definitely go much higher.

If you book a wedding planner with all of the services included, you may end up paying around $12,000. Booking a full-time wedding planner will mean utilizing all of their services, such as the following:

  • Correspondence.
  • Selecting and booking vendors.
  • Wedding preparation.
  • Organization.
  • Wedding coordination.
  • Post-wedding tasks.
Banff National Park has rules and regulations that must be followed by all participants.

Can I get married anywhere in Banff?

There are multiple locations in Banff where you can get married. Namely, there are both indoor and outdoor locations that are perfect for a bridal ceremony. If you intend to marry within Banff National Park, then you need to obtain a permit.

We have already mentioned that each guest needs to have an entry pass. In addition, the wedding couple will need to fill in an application form and comply with all of the regulations. You have to take into account that what is allowed in regular bridal venues is not allowed on the property of the park.

For instance, you are not allowed to set up a tent or a similar temporary shelter. You need to opt for quieter music during the ceremony, such as harp, guitar, or flute. Everything that might affect the environment, such as confetti and pyrotechnics, is strongly prohibited.

You can be married at various locations across (or in) Banff, but the location will impose certain regulations. If you want a big and loud ceremony, then Banff National Park might not be the right place for you.

There are many locations that will still allow you to have a ceremony surrounded by the natural beauty of the Canadian Rockies. Here are some examples:

Indoor Wedding Ceremony Locations in Banff

  • Buffalo Mountain Lodge
  • Banff Ptarmigan Inn
  • Mt. Norquay
  • Rimrock Hotel
  • St. George’s in the Pines

Outdoor Wedding Ceremony Locations in Banff

Getting married in Canada? Its pretty easy.

How do I get married in Banff Canada?

To get married in Banff, Canada, you need to do some careful planning. That is, you need to provide all the necessary forms that will state that your wedding is allowed. You do not want to spoil your big day, so make sure that you have everything you need.

If you plan to tie the knot in Banff National Park, first, you will need to fill out a wedding registration form. This form is free of charge and it does not need to be approved or anything. You just need to obtain it, so people in charge will know that you are doing everything legally.

Reputable wedding planners in Banff are already aware of all requirements. They will prepare all the forms as well as guest entry passes, so you will not have to worry about those details.

When can you get married in Banff?

Many wedding venues in Banff are open throughout the whole year, but there are also ones that work only during the spring and summer months. It is very important to check the availability of the venue before you set your heart on it. Most wedding locations need to be booked a minimum of 18 months in advance.

The Canadian Rockies is a beautiful place to get married and it’s easy to do so. The basics are getting a marriage license two witnesses and a marriage commissioner everything else added on makes the day extra special.

Photographer – Pick someone that you connect with feel conformable with and like their photographic style. Remember they are an artist that has a vision so if you think you have a Pinterest shot you like maybe just contact that photographer rather than getting someone to recreate it.
Videographer – The people that never get videos to regret it, the people that weren’t sure about it and got the video would place it on their top 5 to get at your wedding list. The same goes for videographers pick someone you like and like their work.
Wedding planner- Nice to have someone take care of the details and give you the time to focus on your day rather than the details. Day of planning works for those that have managed planning it all and just need that planner to take care of managing all the great people you hired.
Florist- Get flowers that can hold up to heat or cold weather. If you’re just getting a bouquet pick something simple that will hold up and not wilt by the time your photo session starts. Local Florists are aware of what works best.
Transportation- If your eloping you maybe just want to drive yourself or hire a driver and car for the time you need them. Check with your photographer if you’re moving around a lot to different locations. It easier for the driver to drop you off and pick you up rather than try to park etc. If you’re having a bigger wedding think about hiring a bus to get your wedding party to the location. Parking can get busy in Summer everywhere in the Canadian Rockies even on Monday!
DJ or Music – If you’re eloping you can just have a Bluetooth speaker to play your song as you walk up if you like. But if your wedding is bigger you may want to hire a DJ that can set up play the music have a mic ready and adjust the volume as needed. They can then set up at the venue for your reception.
Hope that helps with some quick ideas.

Aydin has been in the industry for many years in hotels as a concierge, tour guide and has owned a DJ company in the past. His profession when not a marriage commissioner is a photographer and videographer shooting everything from weddings to commercial shoots.

Banff National Park – From Canmore to Lake Louise, We’ve Got the Best Locations!

Located in the heart of Western Canada’s Rocky Mountains, Canmore, Alberta is as convenient of a weddings destination as it is scenic. Only 75 minutes from Calgary International Airport, Canmore is a vibrant town that has an eclectic mix of real Canadian residents and tourists. Canmore is more of a “real” town, you might say, in comparison to Banff and Jasper, which rely heavily on tourism. Here you can find local pubs and true local restaurant flavor, as well as off-beat shopping. Many repeat travelers often lodge and stay in Canmor’s hotels and resorts, since it is so close to Banff.

Banff, Alberta – Canada’s first national park is famous for its natural hot springs and magnificent mountain landscape. As such, Banff is a photographer’s paradise – and a mountain bikers paradise, a hiker’s paradise, a skier’s paradise, a bird-watcher’s paradise, a kayaker’s paradise – you get the idea. But it’s also a luxury-lover’s paradise. Whatever accommodations you prefer – a rustic lodge, a boutique hotel, or world-class resort, it’s here in Banff. The town is located only one-and-a-half hours from the Calgary International Airport and thirty minutes west of Canmore.

Lake Louise, Alberta – This small mountain community is framed by stunning mountains, breath-taking glaciers and beautiful turquoise waters. Smaller and consequently less developed than either Banff or Canmore, Lake Louise is one of the most famous backdrops for weddings. This lakeside village is quiet, but with its world-class accommodations it is perfect for an intimate wedding in an outdoor paradise. Lake Louise is Located two hours west of Calgary on the Trans Canada Highway/Highway 1 – on the way you will pass by both Canmore and Banff.

Transportation services are plentiful and easy from Calgary to most areas around Banff and Banff National Park. Ground connections to Canmore, Banff and Lake Louise include shuttle service, limousines and rental cars. You will be traveling on the Trans Canada Highway/Highway 1 This scenic drive will take you from gentle foothills to the awe inspiring mountains of the Canadian Rockies. We recommend using SunDog Tours. You can also take train if you’re looking for a slower, scenic option.

Weddings in the Banff area are more than just ceremonies in splendid scenery with awe-inspiring mountains in the background, it’s about enjoying a life experience with that special someone. There is nothing like the Canadian Rockies. You’ve picked out the perfect wedding dress – now pick out the perfect spot in which to get married.

Let the Endless Outdoor Recreation of the Canadian Rockies Give Your Wedding Guests the Time of Their Lives

When you’re a wedding guest, as opposed to the bride and groom or immediate family, weddings sometimes aren’t that much fun – especially when you have to travel somewhere to attend. That’s another great thing about a wedding in Banff National Park and the Canadian Rockies: there is no end of things to do for your guests.

In fact, by planning ahead, you can make sure your guests get the most out of their Canadian Rockies trip, and make your wedding more fun at the same time.

Make Your Wedding Trip a Bonding Experience

Ciara Daykin, wedding planner and owner of Firefly Occasions, suggests the bride and groom plan group activities for guests. “Your guests will all feel like they are friends by the time the wedding actually happens.” She notes that guests will want to get out and experience the Canadian Rockies anyway, and by planning group activities, the bride and groom can create a bonding experience for their guests without incurring extra cost. “You don’t have to pay for everything, you just have to have it organized,” she says.

One Trip for the Adrenalin Junkies, One for Those that Just Want to Relax

Daykin recommends setting up two separate trips that will appeal to a broad range of guests, say whitewater rafting and guided sight seeing. Afterward, she says it’s good to have reservations made at a local restaurant, where your guests can get together and talk about their day over a great meal. “There are phenomenal restaurants in and around Banff,” she notes. “These places know how to cater to a large group.”

Below, you’ll find a list of information to help you and your guests plan their stay in the Canadian Rockies.

Accommodations

Everyone in your wedding party should be able to find the right accommodations in and around Banff. Whether they need a castle, a cabin, a boutique hotel, or are just happy to have a hotel room, you’ll find it all listed in our accommodations section. Need to impress your spouse’s parents? Put ’em up in a five-star resort hotel and spa!

Activities

If your guests complain that they’re bored on their trip here, you’d better check their pulse. There is no shortage of hikes, drives, sights, tours and other activities in and around Banff National Park to keep them busy, entertained, and out of your hair during their stay in the Canadian Rockies.

Restaurants

At some point your guests are going to get hungry during their stay here, but there are restaurants in Banff that fit just about everyone’s tastes here. Our restaurants in the Canadian Rockies are as varied and awesome as the peaks that grace the Western Canada skyline.

Best of Both Worlds: Come to the Canadian Rockies for Your Wedding and Stay for the Honeymoon

What’s one of the best things about having your wedding here in Banff National Park or elsewhere in the Canadian Rockies? Your honeymoon – it can begin pretty much after you finish saying “I do.” Maybe even before that, say, as soon as you get here.

The Canadian Rockies, with places like Banff National Park, Jasper National Park and towns like Canmore, Lake Louise, Banff and Jasper, can provide newlyweds with a beautiful, inspiring, and fun way to begin their lives together. And not to worry if roughing it in the great oudoors isn’t what you have in mind for your honeymoon.

There are a lot of the traditional things available for couples who want to pamper themselves on their honeymoon, says Amira Harris, wedding planner and owner of Posh Productions. “Hot springs, spas, mud baths, hot stone massages, there are all sorts of spas that can really take care of you,” she says.

Once you feel good and relaxed, there is plenty to keep you busy. “For anyone who’s never been to the Rockies, you wouldn’t have to try hard to find something to do,” Harris says. “You could keep yourself busy for quite a few days out here.”

Of course, if you do like outdoor recreation, Banff and Jasper National Parks offer amazing activities, such as horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, climbing, backpacking, whitewater rafting and skiing. There are also great guided tours, including helicopter tours (heli-tours), motorcycle tours, hiking and driving tours. You can even go on a glacier or ice field tour.

All those activities are bound to whet your appetite, and the restaurants of the Canadian Rockies are ready to deliver everything from a great pizza and beer to the finest wine and seafood. And of course, the accommodations here are unsurpassed; there is everything from rustic, private cabins to boutique hotels to five-star luxury resorts and spas.

In the Canadian Rockies, it is truly possible to have a beautiful wedding and first-class honeymoon, while saving time on traveling to some far-away destination on the other side of the globe – which saves you a bit of money, too!

Have a Unique Wedding in the Canadian Rockies: On a Helicopter!

Sure, you get incredible, scenic alpine backdrops wherever you gaze around Banff, Canada and Banff National Park. But what about from the air?

On that most special of days, your wedding day, what better backdrop to your nuptials could there be than floating above the most stunning mountain range in the world with the person you have just pledged to spend the rest of your life with?

You can do that in Canmore, just a short 25 kilometers south of Banff on the Trans Canada Highway. There are a few different companies to choose from; one that offers the largest range of prices and times is Kananaskis Heli Tours. Whether you simply want a quick peek at the peaks of the Canadian Rockies from above or something longer – and perhaps more romantic and unique – you can tailor your trip.

If you want to pull out all the stops – and why not? After all, if all goes well, you only get married once, right? – you can chose Kananaskis Heli Tours’ Romance Package. The Romance Package is for people celebrating anniversaries, proposals, weddings or any other special occasion. It is a private helicopter experience with a one hour champagne stop in the wilderness. Aside from perhaps a hot air balloon across the pyramids in Egypt, it is hard to imagine a more romantic gesture.

The Canadian Rockies is a big healthy, welcoming, naturally beautiful wonderland. It is exactly the right place to celebrate a wedding. There is something about being in a helicopter, surrounded by the unspoiled natural majesty of the snow-capped mountains and the green alpine valleys and meadows, that makes you feel small and appreciative of the things you have.
